The benefits of regular exercise have been well documented. From reducing your risk of chronic diseases to improving your mood and making you feel happier, there’s a lot to be said for exercise.
But how does one find the time to exercise? Well, it’s all about getting creative in your daily life! In this article, we share 5 tips to get more active!
Tip #1: Take the stairs instead of the elevator or lift
Simple changes to your daily routine can make a world of difference when it comes to your fitness levels. Something as easy as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or lift can help boost your activity levels and get those muscles working.
Don’t have stairs at work? No problem. Find other ways to increase your daily activity levels, like walking the long way to the bathroom or lunchroom or parking at the far side of the car park wherever possible. If you use public transport, get off one stop before your destination and walk the rest of the way.
Tip #2: Learn to multi-task
One of the best ways to be more active in your daily life is to learn to exercise while you’re doing something else. For example, you could do meetings on the run – walk and talk at the same time. Another idea is to invest in a treadmill desk and walk while you work.
Tip #3: Keep it social
Many people enjoy exercising alone, but it can be really fun and rewarding to get active with others. You could replace a Sunday session at the pub with a Sunday walk or game of sport, for example, or sign up for a charity walk with friends.
Another great tip is to team up with an accountability partner when training. That way, you can challenge each other to train harder, and hold one another accountable.
Tip #4: Schedule workouts into your calendar
A goal without a plan is just a wish. In other words, you need to plan how you are going to become more active.
That might mean riding your bike to work 3 days a week. It could mean doing a power session at the gym during your lunchbreak. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to schedule the activity into your calendar, so that you’re committed and more inclined to stick to the plan.
Tip #5: Do what makes you happy
Let’s face it – you’re not going to run every day if you find it tedious and jarring. Find an exercise or sport that you really enjoy doing, and it will be easier for you to stay motivated and on track. It may be boxing or yoga, squash or karate – whatever tickles your fancy, give it your all and immerse yourself in it!
